The Faithfulness That Stays: What This Changes Between Us

The fellowship hall still has two versions of the same household. Last month this church said we will walk with you after the graves were named out loud. One family received that sentence. The chairs around them received a quieter version by Tuesday: a meal calendar that ended, a ride that never got assigned, a hallway that learned how to say they probably need space.

A teenager two seats down is deciding whether this church stays with a name together, or whether one unofficial goodbye writes the public belonging the rest of you have to live under.

This is a sermon about what Ruth 1 changes between you. If you preach it as a map of anyone's private attachment, you will lie. If you preach it as Naomi on the road from Moab, Orpah kissing her, Ruth staying, Yahweh already visiting his people with bread, you give this church a God whose covenant love does not wait for a convenient hour, and a people who cannot keep one household's unofficial goodbye as the last word a watching room is allowed to keep.
