Enough for Today: The Road Back After Failure

Ready to Preach

God gives a day's portion and will not let hoarded trust keep, so the road back after failure cannot hide behind a finished enough-for-today sentence.

The recovery packet still has last month's enough-for-today sentence in the margin. God will provide. The man who tried to store the week sits in the second chair with a restored name and an extra sack he never brought into the room. The woman who still carries what the store cost sits two rows back. She signed the covenant. She also learned the new grammar of this church: provision as a finished feeling, restoration as a recited line, the official version as the road back. Nobody asked what the extra sack still holds.

A sponsor two seats over signed the last welcome that printed daily bread on the packet. He also signed the first one that left the inadequate brother in a smaller room. He has a sentence about healing. He has not asked who still waits for a morning when a living people is still standing over worms.

This is a sermon for a church that already knows how to survive a wreck and does not know how to gather after one. If you preach Exodus 16 as a map of anyone's private relapse, you will lie. If you preach it as Israel in the wilderness of Sin, you give this church a God who gives a day's portion and will not let hoarded trust keep, and you take away the cheap road that hides behind a finished enough-for-today sentence.
