Faithful in This Season: The Responsibility in the Room

The staff calendar already has a verdict. Someone in this room will open a laptop after the benediction and try to make next week look like last March. They will mean responsibility. The hour God has given this church will sit on the table like a problem a competent team can still solve if they stay late enough.

This is a sermon for a church that already knows the poem and still treats the hour God has given as a calendar the responsible people can manage on behalf of the flock. If you preach Ecclesiastes 3 as a map of anyone's private anxiety, you will lie. If you preach it as a technique that makes the week applaud the people who hold this room, you will lie in a different direction. Preach it as wisdom for shepherds whose flock can already see how they meet a season they did not schedule.

I have named seasons accurately from a pulpit and still treated the next elders meeting as if the clock were ours to edit.
