The Courage to Tell the Whole Truth: The Witness Our Neighbors Can See

The sidewalk already has two versions of the same grace sentence. Last month this church printed we are a people of grace toward the street after a named failure went public between a household that still has to live there and a porch that already received create in me a clean heart as a caption. One person received that sentence as cover. The block received a quieter version by Tuesday: keep the truth indoor.

A neighbor two houses over is deciding whether this church can occupy the whole truth in air a watching porch can still see, or whether one unofficial indoor-repentance line writes the only public news the block is allowed to keep.

This is a sermon about what Psalm 51 does to the witness your neighbors can already name. If you preach it as a map of anyone's private shame, you will lie. If you preach it as a street campaign that never lets a named sin occupy air a second chair can still hear, you will lie in a different direction. Preach it as penitential poetry that stops managing appearances and asks God for a clean heart.
