When Fear Writes the Report: The Road Back After Failure

The recovery packet still has last month's courage sentence in the margin. We go. We are not afraid. The man who signed the grasshopper report sits in the second chair with a restored name and a wall he never brought back into the room. The woman who still waits at that wall sits two rows back. She signed the welcome. She also learned the new grammar of this church: return as a finished feeling, restoration as a recited line, the official version as the road back. Nobody asked which report the camp still hears.

A sponsor two seats over signed the last welcome that printed Caleb on the packet. He also signed the first one that left the named household in a smaller room. He has a sentence about healing. He has not asked who still waits for a morning when a living people can name both the wall and the God they omitted.

This is a sermon for a church that already knows how to survive a wreck and does not know how to gather after one. If you preach Numbers 13 as a map of anyone's private relapse, you will lie. If you preach it as Israel at Kadesh, receiving a true report of real walls while forgetting the God who had already given the land, you give this church a living God whose character still belongs in the sentence after the walls are named, and you take away the cheap road that hides behind a finished courage sentence.
