Opening · about 214 of 214 words
Consider a possible church mission trip. The congregation gives generously. A trusted volunteer carries the funds, the team returns, and everyone celebrates the work. Weeks later, someone asks how much reached the partner church. There are several answers, a few missing receipts, and no agreed opening balance.
Nothing in that situation proves theft. It does reveal a burden that good records could have prevented. The volunteer must now explain from memory what several people should have verified together.
That example is imagined. Ezra's account is Scripture. It describes people returning from Babylon to Jerusalem with offerings for God's house. Their journey includes dependence on God and careful handling of valuable gifts. The passage helps us see why prayer belongs in the same church meeting as a clear transfer record. People entrusted with resources should be able to give an honest account of what they received and delivered.
This message is not an appeal to give more money. It concerns the care of resources already entrusted to us. A generous gift deserves more than an inspiring departure announcement. The sending congregation, the travelers, and the receiving ministry all need a shared understanding of the transfer. Trust in God's protection belongs alongside transparent custody of shared resources.
