The unused invite is still facedown under the mat. Last month this church printed we will go to them on the mission board after a neighbor named a fear this porch already finished explaining: a visit the street already knew was owed, a quieter disciple this sanctuary already called sent. One hallway said handle it like the campus guy. The sidewalk received that sentence as if it were the only public news the block is allowed to keep.
A kid on that sidewalk is deciding whether this church is a people who come near in the name of Yahweh of Armies, or a people who keep the courage language indoors and dress a quieter mouth in someone else's public strength.
This is a sermon about the witness our neighbors can already see. If you preach it as a map of anyone's personality or unfinished comparison, you will lie. If you preach it as David before Saul, a real Philistine in the valley, armor that would not move, five stones from a real brook, and a God who does not save with sword and spear, you give this church a God who does not require a disciple to wear another man's strength.
