Enough for Today: For the Week You Did Not Choose

The pantry list still has last month's provision sentence in the margin. God will provide. The woman with the scan results and the stack of envelopes sits in the third row with a folder she did not ask to carry. The man who lost half his hours at the plant sits two seats over. He has a choice that is not a choice: take the night shift that will keep the lights on, or stay home with a child who already knows the sound of the late truck. A deacon two pews forward signed both cards. He has a sentence about daily bread. He has not asked who still wakes up wondering whether morning will hold.

This is a sermon for a church that already knows how to print enough and does not know how to stay with people who did not choose this week. If you preach Exodus 16 as a map of anyone's private budget, you will lie. If you preach it as Israel in the wilderness of Sin, you give this church a God who feeds a people one morning at a time, and you take away the cheap care that hides behind a finished pantry.
