Fully Known and Not Abandoned: The Practice That Makes It Visible

The sentence already did the work. The practice never left the room. That is how a Tuesday group can say God already knows at 7:42 and still send every person home with a smaller sentence than the one on their tongue. The doctrine got a nod. The hallway got weather. Being fully known stayed an indoor fact that did not have to become visible.

Psalm 139 will not scold that room. It will refuse the unused practice. This is a sermon for a church that already believes God searches the heart and still treats that knowledge as a reason to stay hidden. If you preach the psalm as a pep talk about self-worth, you will lie. If you preach it as a threat, you will send already-exposed people home more afraid of God than of the truth. Preach it as prayer-poetry: the God who already knows you has not abandoned you. Then name the practice that makes that refuge visible this week.

Hear Psalm 139:1-18, from the World English Bible: "Yahweh, you have searched me, and you know me. You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, Yahweh, you know it altogether. You hem me in behind and before. You laid your hand on me. This knowledge is beyond me. It’s lofty. I can’t attain it.
