Faithful in This Season: For the Week You Did Not Choose Preview · Opening of the manuscript The calendar on the kitchen wall still has last month's plan written in ink.
A date that was supposed to be ordinary now has a name nobody voted for. A diagnosis. A resignation. A moving truck. A grave. A chair that stayed empty after the greeting line. Tuesday did not ask the sanctuary whether this was a good week for change.
This is a sermon for the week you did not choose. If you preach Ecclesiastes 3 as a map of anyone's private anxiety, you will lie. If you preach it as a promise that receiving the season will make the week applaud you, you will lie in a different direction. Preach it as wisdom for people who already know the hour changed and still have to live in it. You give this church a God who made everything beautiful in its time.
You also take away the cheap pastoral move that treats control of the clock as faith.
