Enough for Today: The Witness Our Neighbors Can See

The unused invite is still facedown under the mat. Last month this church prayed give us this day our daily bread after a neighbor named a week that would not stretch. This month the same hallway can quote the dew, the omer, and the worms. The woman who prints enough for today on the mission board still treats the person at the register as a later project. A kid on the sidewalk is deciding whether this church is a people who gather in the open or a people who store tomorrow as a private god with better songs.

This is a sermon about the witness our neighbors can already see. If you preach it as a map of anyone's private anxiety, you will lie. If you preach it as Israel in the wilderness of Sin, you give this church a God who gives a day's portion and will not let hoarded trust keep, and a people who cannot treat a printed daily-bread sentence as the witness the street can already name.
