About
A single Sunday from Hebrews 12:1-13 for a church living a week it did not put on the calendar. The letter, after the witnesses of chapter 11, commands a weary people to lay aside every weight and the sin that entangles, run with perseverance the race set before them, and look to Jesus, who endured the cross and sat down. Proverbs 3:11-12, quoted in the letter, reasons with sons: do not despise the Lord's discipline or faint under his correction. Isaiah 35:3 supplies the image Hebrews uses for hanging hands and feeble knees. Endurance is not a heavier pack. Training is the Father's dealing with children, grievous in the present, with fruit afterward, not a promise that this Tuesday will ease. Manuscript, outline, and midweek discussion.
