A teacher can speak with confidence while the people nearest the ministry grow afraid to ask questions. A donation is requested. A complaint disappears. Someone who asks where the money went is treated as a threat to the work of God. These are hypothetical examples, not accusations about a named ministry. They describe why we need the whole test Scripture gives us.

We may ask whether the teacher uses familiar Christian words. Peter makes us ask what those words are doing to people. Is truth being served, or is religious language helping someone gain money, sexual access, and control? The teacher's greed belongs inside the test. People are not inventory for a successful ministry.

This passage may be difficult for someone who has been harmed by a spiritual leader. You do not have to share your story today. You may step out, sit with someone you trust, or seek help outside this congregation. Listening to this sermon does not obligate you to contact the person who harmed you. Our responsibility is to hear God's warning without placing another burden on those already carrying harm.
