The Road Through the Water: The Witness Our Neighbors Can See

Ready to Preach

God makes a way where fear can see only a dead end, so this church cannot treat a printed crossing sentence as the witness our neighbors can already see.

The porch light is still on. Last month this church sang God will make a way after a man named the neighbor on the other side of the fence. This month the same hallway can quote the east wind and the wall of water. The invite is still facedown under the mat. The woman who prints the crossing on the mission board still treats the person at the register as a later project. A kid on the sidewalk is deciding whether this church is a people who walk toward water or a people who print water and stay on the bank.

This is a sermon about the witness our neighbors can already see. If you preach it as a map of anyone's private panic, you will lie. If you preach it as Israel between Pharaoh and the sea, you give this church a God who makes a way where fear can see only a dead end, and a people who cannot treat a printed crossing sentence as the witness the street can already name.
