The porch light is still on at the house next to the church parking lot. Last month this church printed we will sit with mystery toward the street. By Tuesday the leftover indoor explanation had already become the only public news a watching neighbor was allowed to keep.
A neighbor two doors over is deciding whether this church can occupy the same air with a question nobody can finish, or whether leftover indoor mystery writes the only witness they are allowed to see.
This is a sermon about what Job 38 does to the news a neighbor can still hear. If you preach it as a map of anyone's private weather, you will lie. If you preach it as Yahweh answering Job out of the whirlwind, you give this church a God whose wisdom is larger than the answer we demanded. You also take away the cheap mission move that treats a private why as the same thing as a public hour.
