The Lost and Found

Jesus answers a murmur about his table with one parable in three movements. God seeks the lost like a shepherd who leaves ninety-nine, searches with a woman's lamp and broom for what cannot even bleat, and runs toward the rebel while pleading with the resentful son who will not come in. Lostness is not rounding error. Heaven knows how to rejoice over one. The question is whether the church will come to the table.
