Build With a Sword Nearby: What This Changes Between Us

The foyer still has two versions of the same named threat. Last month this church said we will pray and we will watch after a household, a hallway, and a public rumor all arrived in the same week. One person received that sentence as cover. The chairs around them received a quieter version by Tuesday: pick a room. Prayer people stay in one door. Watch people stay in the other.

A neighbor two seats over is deciding whether this church can keep prayer and a watch in the same air, or whether one unofficial split writes the public life the rest of you have to live under.

This is a sermon about what Nehemiah 4 changes between you. If you preach it as a map of anyone's private anxiety, you will lie. If you preach it as Judah repairing Jerusalem's wall under Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabians, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, with real rubble, real families on the wall, real swords at the side, and a God who hears prayer and still lets a people set a watch together, you give this church a God who will not let a split hallway become the last word a named household is allowed to keep between them.
