The woman in the second row has a meal she has been postponing because saying love felt safer than talking of these words when she sits in her house. The man by the aisle has a house he did not fill, and a gratitude sentence that never reached the gate. A teacher at the table has both names on a list. He has a line about not forgetting.

He has not asked who still treats the walk, the lying down, and the rising up as optional homework.

A kid in the hallway is deciding whether this church binds the words to a full house, or harvests the whole table and then prints the Shema on a card.

This is a sermon for a church that already owns do not forget and still treats the practice that would make it visible as extra credit. If you preach Deuteronomy 6 as a map of anyone's private gratitude program, you will lie. If you preach it as Israel on the edge of a land they did not build, receiving houses they did not fill, then being told to teach, talk, bind, and write before they eat and are full, you give this church a living God whose words belong on the door, and you take away the cheap discipleship that hides behind a finished gratitude sentence.
