The Courage to Tell the Whole Truth: The Practice That Makes It Visible

The prayer is already finished. The practice never left the chair. That is how a disciple can tell God the whole truth on Tuesday night and still send the harmed person a smaller sentence on Thursday. The inward parts got a paragraph. The hallway got weather. Formation got treated as a private feeling that does not have to become visible.

Psalm 51 will not scold the fear. It will refuse the unused practice. This is a sermon for a church that already knows how to say confession and still treats an indoor prayer as the whole of repentance. If you preach Psalm 51 as a mood, you will lie. If you preach it as a technique that makes consequences disappear, you will lie in a different direction. Preach it as a prayer that stops managing appearances and asks God for a clean heart, then name the practice that makes the prayer visible.
