A small-group leader two seats over signed the covenant language. He also ate without asking who still sat far from the table. He has a sentence about the family of God. He has not taken a next act a second person could still watch.

This is a sermon for a church that already knows how to say belonging and does not know how to make covenant kindness visible. If you preach 2 Samuel 9 as a map of anyone's private shame, you will lie. If you preach it as David in Jerusalem, a real king, a real grandson of Saul, a real house in Lo Debar, and a God whose kindness keeps a sworn word after the friend is dead, you give this church a God who will not let a printed belonging sentence stand in for the practice that would make it visible.
