Faithful in This Season: The Witness Our Neighbors Can See

The sidewalk in front of this building already has a verdict. Someone two houses down watched a car stay in the lot longer than usual last Tuesday. They do not have the bulletin. They have the hour they can see: a closed ministry, a job that never arrived, a funeral that filled the parking lot, a season this church did not vote for. They are already deciding what kind of God the people inside this room actually trust.

This is a sermon for a church that already knows the poem and still treats the hour it did not choose as indoor theology the sidewalk never has to see. If you preach Ecclesiastes 3 as a map of anyone's private anxiety, you will lie. If you preach it as a technique that makes the week applaud the congregation, you will lie in a different direction. Preach it as wisdom for people whose neighbors can already see how they meet a season they did not schedule.

I have quoted verse 1 over a room and still walked the parking lot as if the hour belonged only to the people who already believed it.
