God in the Quiet After the Fire: For the Week You Did Not Choose

Ready to Preach

God meets exhausted servants in the quiet after the fire with care, truth, and a renewed assignment, not with a demand that they pretend the week they did not choose is already finished.

God in the Quiet After the Fire: For the Week You Did Not Choose Preview · Opening of the manuscript The leftover bulletin from last Sunday still sits on the kitchen counter. The fire was public. The threat arrived on Monday. One hallway said get back on the mountain. The room received that sentence as if it were the only pastoral news an exhausted servant is allowed to keep.

A deacon two seats over printed Yahweh is God on the folder. He also signed the first note that left the named chair under a we-are-fine file. He has a sentence about rest. He has not asked who still sits under the juniper tree.

This is a sermon for a church that already knows how to survive a fire and does not know how to sit with the week after without dressing exhaustion as unbelief. If you preach 1 Kings 19 as a map of anyone's private mood, you will lie. If you preach it as Elijah after Carmel, a real Jezebel, a real wilderness, a real cave, and a God who feeds a man who asked to die, you give this church a God who will not let a quieter get-back-on-the-mountain sentence wear the name of care.
