Opening · about 215 of 215 words
Imagine a customer checking an invoice at the kitchen table. This is an illustration, not a scene from Scripture. The total adds up. The company name is familiar. Yet a charge described as optional was included automatically, or the quantity delivered fell short of the quantity billed. The paperwork can look orderly while the customer receives less than the agreement promised.
Many of us recognize the temptation from the other side of the counter. A misleading description has become standard in our industry. Nobody complains about the rounding. The small difference helps cover rising costs. We would never take money from a neighbor’s wallet, but we can become comfortable arranging a transaction that quietly takes it another way.
Leviticus brings that ordinary transaction into the presence of God. Holiness reaches the instrument used to measure the sale. The Lord cares about the difference between the amount promised and the amount delivered, even when that difference seems too small for anyone to notice.
This word addresses more than business owners. We order goods, submit expense claims, approve invoices, sell used equipment, report hours, and steward church money. Each role carries different authority. The question is what we do with the accuracy and influence actually entrusted to us.
