The formation class can say it without looking down. A man in the second row taught the Joseph unit on Tuesday and still treats the later chapter as the assignment. He can quote the long work. He has not taken the next step a watching table could name.

A woman across the aisle has a different finished card. She wrote "trust the unfinished story" three weeks in a row. She still uses the later sentence the way a room uses a hallway line: as proof that the class already believes the right thing. The group calls that maturity. Nobody has asked her what practice made the belief visible.

This is a sermon about the practice that makes God's unfinished work visible after betrayal. If you preach Genesis 37 as a map of anyone's rule of life, you will lie. If you preach it as Joseph's brothers throwing him into a real pit in history, you give this church a God whose long work is practiced in the next revealed step, not stored in a later-chapter sentence.
