What the New Life Wears: The Responsibility in the Room

A single Sunday from Colossians 3:12-17 for a church that can name the new life from a chair and still leave the old clothes on in the room that chair already governs. Paul writes clothes a renewed people already have: compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, perseverance, bearing with one another, forgiveness as Christ forgave, love as the bond, the peace of God ruling in one body, ordinary word and deed in the name of the Lord Jesus with thanks. Those clothes have a room. Compassion, patience, forgiveness, love, and gratitude clothe a renewed community; whoever already has a room wears those clothes toward the people in it, not as a technique for running a meeting, but as the life God has already given in Christ.
