The Road Through the Water: What This Changes Between Us

Ready to Preach

God makes a way where fear can see only a dead end, so this church cannot treat a brother's impossible choice as a private stall the table does not have to carry.

The empty chair is still at the end of the table. Last month this church sang God will make a way after a household named two options nobody wanted. This month the same table can quote the east wind and the wall of water. The woman who named the diagnosis still sits one seat over from a bulletin that already printed the crossing. The man who asked for prayer about the job still gets a hallway blessing and no one at the meal. A teenager in the balcony is deciding whether this church is a people or a set of private rescues with better songs.

This is a sermon about what Exodus 14 changes between you. If you preach it as a map of anyone's private panic, you will lie. If you preach it as Israel between Pharaoh and the sea, you give this church a God who makes a way where fear can see only a dead end, and a people who cannot treat a brother's impossible choice as a private stall the table does not have to carry.
