the Room Preview · Opening of the manuscript The elder minutes still have last month's we-will-sit-with-mystery sentence. We will receive the wisdom of God when the question has a name. Three chairs around this table already know which household asked a question nobody can finish, and which chair still treats leftover indoor explanation as the charge they already keep. One of those chairs called a we-already-know-why sentence oversight and then kept the meeting on time. Nobody spoke the next word the room already needed.
A man two chairs down signed the last vote that printed wisdom on the packet. He also signed the first one that left a named unanswered hour in a smaller office. He has not asked who still holds the room.
This is a sermon about the responsibility already in the room. If you preach Job 38 as a map of anyone's private weather, you will lie. If you preach it as Yahweh answering Job out of the whirlwind, you give this church a God whose wisdom is larger than the answer we demanded. You also take away the cheap leadership move that treats leftover indoor explanation as the charge the chairs already keep.
