The Risk of the Open Door: What This Changes Between Us Preview · Opening of the manuscript The foyer still has two versions of the same open door. One household has a key that still works. Another has a title that still gets a callback. A third has the quieter chair two seats over, the one that never gets asked into the inner room and still has to live under whatever the titled names decide. Last month this church said we will pray for courage. By Tuesday the hallway had a quieter rule: the people with access will handle it when they are ready.

A neighbor two seats over is deciding whether this church can spend a seat in air other people can still hear, or whether unused access writes the public life the rest of the body has to live under.

This is a sermon about what Esther 4 changes between you. If you preach it as a map of anyone's private anxiety, you will lie. If you preach it as a Jewish queen in a Persian palace, with a real decree, a real law about uninvited entry, and a people in Susa asked to fast together before she walks, you give this church a God who can deliver even if she stays silent, and a body that still has to decide whether privilege will be spent where the quieter chairs can still recognize it.
