The sidewalk received a quieter we-already-did-the-loud-part version by Tuesday. A neighbor at the next stoop is deciding whether this church still returns after the fire, or whether leftover spectacle is the only public news the street is allowed to keep.

This is a sermon about the witness 1 Kings 19 sets in public. If you preach it as a map of anyone's private burnout, you will lie. If you preach it as Elijah after Carmel, a real Jezebel, a real wilderness, a real cave, and a God who feeds a man who asked to die then sends him toward Damascus, you give this church a God who does not need leftover fire as the only grammar of sending.
