Build With a Sword Nearby: The Witness Our Neighbors Can See

The unused invite is still facedown on the neighboring stoop. Last month this church said we will pray and we will watch after a named opposition went public on the block. One hallway received that sentence as cover. The sidewalk received a quieter indoor version by Tuesday: keep both tools inside, because nobody on the street has to see either.

A neighbor at the next stoop is deciding whether this church still joins prayer, vigilance, and work where the street can still see it, or whether leftover indoor prayer-and-watch language is the only public news the block is allowed to keep.

This is a sermon about the witness Nehemiah 4 already sets in public. If you preach it as a map of anyone's private anxiety, you will lie. If you preach it as Judah repairing Jerusalem's wall under named enemies, with real rubble, real families, real swords at the side, and a God who hears prayer and still lets a people set a watch together, you give this church a God who will not let leftover indoor tools write the last sentence a watching neighbor has to live under.
