Leave Something at the Edge: The Road Back After Failure

The recovery packet still has last month's neighbor-love sentence in the margin. Love your neighbor. Leave the edge. The man who stripped a named corner sits in the second chair with a restored name and a harvest he never brought back into the room. The woman who still waits at that edge sits two rows back.

She signed the welcome. She also learned the new grammar of this church: return as a finished feeling, restoration as a recited line, the official version as the road back. Nobody asked what the field still holds.

A sponsor two seats over signed the last welcome that printed Leviticus on the packet. He also signed the first one that left the named household in a smaller room. He has a sentence about healing. He has not asked who still waits for a morning when a living people is still standing over a stripped corner they already named as care.

This is a sermon for a church that already knows how to survive a wreck and does not know how to gather after one. If you preach Leviticus 19 as a map of anyone's private relapse, you will lie. If you preach it as Yahweh's law to Israel in the land, you give this church a holy God whose character shows up where the poor and the foreigner can already walk, and you take away the cheap road that hides behind a finished neighbor-love sentence.
