The Humility of the Small Instruction: The Practice That Makes It Visible

The whiteboard in the discipleship room still has last month's line. We will go if the Lord asks a great thing. Three people around this table already know which household quoted that sentence after a named wound, then left the small instruction unused because it did not come with a ceremony. One of those people called the unused wash prudence and kept the class on time. Nobody named the river already sitting on the table.

A man two seats down signed the last covenant that printed humility on the packet. He also left the named next wash in a hallway speech about what he would have done if God had asked something larger. He has not asked who is still standing at the door with horses and chariots, waiting for a production.

This is a sermon about the practice that makes the small instruction visible. If you preach 2 Kings 5 as a map of anyone's private pride, you will lie. If you preach it as Naaman of Syria, a real leprosy, a real little girl, a real letter, a real door, a real Jordan, and a God who meets a raging captain with an ordinary word, you give this church a God who resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. You also take away the cheap discipleship move that treats a speech about a great thing as the obedience the room already kept.
